Decision made on moose hunting season for 1996-97

Dr. Rex Gibbons, Minister of Natural Resources, announced today that he would like to clarify some confusion in Central Newfoundland concerning the moose hunting season for the next hunting season in the fall of 1996. The minister stated that a decision has now been taken that in those areas where both residents and non-residents hunt moose, the seasons in 1996-97 will be aligned the same as those in 1995-96.

Throughout the year, Dr. Gibbons has received representation about when the moose hunting season should open. The minister welcomes input from all groups and organizations which represent big game hunters about preferences for hunting seasons and is considering a more formal public consultation on the matter during 1996.

The minister further stated that the Application Guide for the 1996-97 hunting licenses is being completed and should be available for distribution within the next few days.
