Polar bear quotas for Labrador

Dr. Rex Gibbons, Minister of Natural Resources, announced today the approval of polar bear quotas for Labrador. He announced that four polar bear licences will be made available in Labrador this year. He further "stated that as in past years, the Labrador Inuit Association will be acting, as agents for the government in distribution of these licenses among "eligible hunters in Labrador. These licences are for either sex. However,"the prohibition against shooting of female polar bears accompanied by cubs"(young of the year) remains in effect. The season for this hunt will be,from February 3, 1996 to June 29, 1996."
