Another Two Caribou Hunting Zones Open in Labrador

Dr. Rex Gibbons, minister responsible for wildlife, announced today that effective immediately, the McPhadyen River and the Michikamau West caribou hunting zones, in Labrador are open for caribou hunting. The minister said animals from the George River herd have now moved into these zones. Dr. Gibbons also said hunting is permitted in a portion of the Colville Lake zone, between the Gabbro Water control structure and the Esker Railway Siding, which are within one kilometre south of the EskerChurchill Falls Access Road. This will allow hunters to harvest caribou on both sides of the highway. The minister reminded hunters that hunting is permitted in Orma North, Michikimau east, Bay of Islands, Orma south and two new zones recently established, Grand Lake and Nipishish.

"Wildlife staff of my department will continue to monitor the movement of the George River caribou herd and hunters are advised that additional areas may be opened as the herd migration continues," said the minister.
