Owners of flood damaged cabins at Flat Bay advised that they can safely return to their properties

Owners of cabins and homes that were damaged in the Flat Bay flood can safely return and use their properties.

The safe return order follows an assessment of damages that was undertaken by the Emergency Measures Division of the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs and an official of the Department of Environment.

EMO Director, Elizabeth Fitzgerald, said many cabins and homes were seriously damaged in the flood which occurred on February 17 and 18 and the assessment was undertaken to ensure that it was safe for residents to use their properties.

"It was a precautionary measure to minimize the risk of personal injury accidents," said Ms. Fitzgerald. "We have now completed our assessment and have determined that it is now safe for people to return and use their cabins and homes."

Ms. Fitzgerald said EMO received excellent cooperation from the owners and that this helped to speed up the period of assessment.
