Owners of flood damaged cabins at Flat Bay asked to refrain from using their properties

Owners of cabins and other recreational facilities that were damaged in the recent flood at Flat Bay are being asked to refrain from using their properties until it has been declared safe for them to do so.

The appeal comes from Elizabeth Fitzgerald, Director of the Emergency Measures Division of the Department of Municipal and Provincial Affairs.

"Many cabins were seriously damaged as the result of the flood which occurred on February 17 and 18 in Flat Bay and it may be unsafe to use them," Ms. Fitzgerald said. "Officials of the Emergency Measures Division are currently in the Flat Bay area to undertake a thorough assessment of damages and we are asking owners and others to stay away from their cabins until such time as they are declared safe to use."

Ms. Fitzgerald said the assessment of property damages is expected to be completed within the next couple of days.

"This is a precautionary measure and our objective basically is to prevent any personal injuries," said Ms. Fitzgerald. "It is our hope that cabin owners will cooperate with Emergency Measures and stay away from their properties until we know that it is safe for them to return."
