Government negotiations with NAPE concerning a labour dispute at correctional institutions conclude

Justice Minister, Chris Decker, today announced that government's negotiations with NAPE officials surrounding a labour dispute at Her Majesty's Penitentiary and other correctional institutions concluded late yesterday afternoon.

"Officials from the Department of Justice and Treasury Board have been in discussion with officials from NAPE since last Saturday," said the minister. "During that time we discussed the union's concerns and I am pleased to say that we have come to a mutual agreement concerning the major issues and are working with the union towards resolution of the remaining issues."

A labour dispute at Her Majesty's Penitentiary resulted in workers at correctional institutions across the province participating in an illegal walk-out on Friday, April 12. Workers were back on the job that evening after the court granted an injunction against the striking workers.
