Boeing Canada in Town

A delegation of Boeing Canada officials were in St. John's yesterday to meet with local business representatives who could become Boeing suppliers.

The purpose of the visit, coordinated by the Department of Industry, Trade and Technology, was to develop a Partnership Initiative with Newfoundland and Labrador companies. The objective of the partnership is to foster self-sufficiency in a competitive marketplace by addressing skills and capabilities required by Newfoundland and Labrador companies to enable them to identify and compete for incremental business in the aerospace, defence, marine, infomatics and other high tech markets. The companies will then be eligible to become part of the Boeing supplier family.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Newfoundland and Labrador companies. It sends a message to other international companies that we have the capabilities and expertise to manufacture world class products," says Charles J. Furey, Minister of Industry, Trade and Technology. "Partnership initiatives such as this one will lead to increased and expanded business opportunities internationally for Newfoundland and Labrador companies who are export ready."

The Boeing delegation is headed by George Capern, Vice President, Boeing Canada. Mr. Capern's responsibilities include support and coordination of business affairs in Canada for Boeing Commercial Airplane Group, Boeing Defense and Space Group, Boeing Information and Support Services. Boeing Canada currently works with companies in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia.
