Silviculture contracts awarded for Island Pond/Ocean Pond, Trinity North District

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, and Doug Oldford, MHA - Trinity North, are pleased to announce the award of three contracts for the removal of remnant stands in areas that will be treated for regeneration.

Contracts of $14,000 were awarded to Jim Harris of Lethbridge for work in the Island Pond area and to Elias Tremblett of Charleston for work in the Island Pond and Ocean Pond areas.

"These projects will prepare the sites at Island Pond for planting and at Ocean Pond for natural regeneration. The stands of trees killed by insects must be removed to permit healthy growth," said the minister.

Mr. Oldford added that such projects are necessary to ensure the future of our forests.

The projects start in mid-October and will last until the end of November. They will employ approximately five people on each.
