Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, today announced the dates for domestic wood cutting in Forest Management District 1, the Avalon Peninsula, to run from October 1, 1996 to March 31, 1997. A permit is valid for any three consecutive months during this period. A domestic cutting permit enables the holder to cut a specified amount of timber from a specified area for the persons own use and not for sale, barter, or gift purposes.

Certain exceptions may be allowed in designated remote areas of blowdown where the permittee may cut up to nine cord (32 cubic metres stacked) of blowdown material for his or her own use under a regular domestic cutting permit.

Domestic permit fees have been set at $21, which includes all taxes. Permits and further information are available at Forestry Offices around the Avalon. Office days when permits can be obtained are:

  • Salmonier and Carbonear on Fridays,
  • Cape Broyle and Whitbourne on Wednesdays,
  • Hearts Content on Thursdays, and,
  • Paddy's Pond Office on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
