Trapper Licence Application Reminder to Labrador Trappers

Beaton Tulk, minister responsible for wildlife, wishes to remind Labrador trappers that trapping licence applications need to be submitted as quickly as possible in order to ensure receipt of trapping licences prior to the start of the season. While most Labrador trappers may have already submitted an application, the minister noted that some trappers, through no fault of their own, may not be aware of changes to the licensing process which was originally announced in the 1995/96 trappers update.

Referring to the new licensing system, the minister commented. "The centralized trapper licensing system, which was implemented last year for the island, is now on stream for Labrador. It will be invaluable in providing our wildlife managers with information on trapper numbers and locations which will enable them to request harvest data vital to the successful management of the province's furbearers."

Trappers who have not received an application in the mail should contact the nearest conservation officer, or phone the regional office in Goose Bay at (709) 896-2732.

Contact: John Blake, Wildlife Division, (709) 729-2549; or Anna Buffinga, Forestry and Wildlife, (709) 729-3750.
