Silviculture development awarded in Lewisporte District
Melvin Penney, MHA - Lewisporte, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a contract for silviculture development work in the Norris Arm area.
A $25,635 contract was awarded to Tercan Holdings Inc. of Campbellton for precommercial thinning of 50 hectares of young dense forest.
"This project will thin dense black spruce and balsam fir to approximately 2,500 stems per hectare. It will improve the overall stand health and development," said the minister. "This area had been commercially logged in the late 70s for pulpwood-sawlogs."
The project will employ 15 people from September 2 to 27, 1996.
