Silviculture project Lake Melville District

Ernest McLean, MHA - Lake Melville, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a contract to carry out silviculture work at Cape Caribou River. "This work represents government's commitment to a sustainable forest," Mr. McLean said. The minister added: "Stewardship and maintenance of our forests is an investment both in the future of the forest industry and for the people of Labrador."

A $32,284.80 contract was awarded to Budland Enterprises Limited of Baytona to plant 114 hectares with container stock with the objective of maintaining the future wood supply in the Upper Lake Melville area.

The project will employ 12 people for eight weeks. Work is expected to get under way in early July and last until early September 1996.
