Road contract for Port au Port district

Gerald Smith, MHA - Port au Port, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today the award of a $28,599.90 contract to carry out new construction of 1.5 kilometres of Class 'D' resource road.

James P. Gillam Contracting Ltd. was awarded the contract to carry out new construction of 1.5 kilometres of road on the Fox Island River Resource road. The road is needed to provide access to timber stands for commercial operators to cut sawlogs and pulpwood. Mr. Smith commented: "The roads will also allow access for silvicultural work and monitoring of the regeneration of the forest." The minister added: "Access to these areas is vital to our forestry industry."

The project is expected to employ six people. Work will commence around the end of June and will take approximately six weeks. The project is fully funded by the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods.
