Silviculture projects announced Lloyd Snow, MHA - Trinity/Bay de Verde, Don Whelan, MHA - Harbour Main/Whitbourne, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a contract to carry out silviculture work near Heart's Desire and Fox Marsh. This work is necessary to ensure that these areas properly regenerate and reach production potential through reforestation techniques. "This work represents government's commitment to a sustainable forest, "said Mr. Snow. Mr Whelan added: "Stewardship, and maintenance of our forests, is a long term investment in the future of the forest industry." A $13,695 contract was awarded to Budland Enterprises Limited of Baytona to plant 35 hectares at Hanging Hill Access road near Heart's Desire and 20 hectares at Fox Marsh. All these areas consist of cutover forest land which has not sufficiently regenerated naturally, therefore approximately 3,000 seedlings will be planted per hectare. All areas are highly accessible. The objective of this silviculture work is to bring these areas into maximum production. The project is expected to be under way by mid-June and end mid- July 1996.
