Silviculture projects in the Bellevue District Percy Barrett, MHA - Bellevue, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a contract to carry out silviculture work in a variety of locations in the Bellevue District. This work is necessary to ensure that these areas properly regenerate and reach production potential through reforestation techniques. "This work represents government's commitment to a sustainable forest," said Mr. Barrett. Mr. Tulk added: "Stewardship and maintenance of our forests is a long term investment in the future of the forest industry." The Bellevue District work is part of a $7,623 contract which was awarded to Budland Enterprises Limited of Baytona to plant 15 hectares at Chapel Arm, 10 hectares at McGrath's Pond and five hectares in the Newhooks area. All these areas consist of cutover forest land which has not sufficiently regenerated naturally, therefore approximately 3,000 seedlings will be planted per hectare. All areas are highly accessible. The objective of this silviculture work is to bring these areas into maximum production. The projects are expected to be under way by mid-June and end mid- July 1996.
