Resource road contract for Terra Nova District
Tom Lush, MHA - Terra Nova and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest
Resources and Agrifoods announced today the award of a $24,078
contract to carry out new construction of 1.45 kilometres of
Class "C-2'" resource road at George's Brook.
Cox's Construction Limited of Lawn, Placentia Bay were awarded
the contract to carry out the extension of the existing resource
road at George's Brook. The road is needed to provide access to
timber stands for commercial operators, followed by a scheduled
domestic harvest. "Recreational users also frequent the area
and will benefit from the extension of the road," commented
Mr. Lush. The roads will also allow access for silvicultural work
and monitoring of the regeneration of the forest. "Access to
these areas is vital to our forestry industry," said the
minister.
The project is expected to employ seven people. Work will
commence around the end of July and will take approximately five
weeks.
The project is fully funded by the Department of Forest
Resources and Agrifoods.
