Resource road contract for Terra Nova District

Tom Lush, MHA - Terra Nova and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods announced today the award of a $24,078 contract to carry out new construction of 1.45 kilometres of Class "C-2'" resource road at George's Brook.

Cox's Construction Limited of Lawn, Placentia Bay were awarded the contract to carry out the extension of the existing resource road at George's Brook. The road is needed to provide access to timber stands for commercial operators, followed by a scheduled domestic harvest. "Recreational users also frequent the area and will benefit from the extension of the road," commented Mr. Lush. The roads will also allow access for silvicultural work and monitoring of the regeneration of the forest. "Access to these areas is vital to our forestry industry," said the minister.

The project is expected to employ seven people. Work will commence around the end of July and will take approximately five weeks.

The project is fully funded by the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods.
