Forest Service undertakes Site Reclamation work at Swanger Cove, Bay d'Espoir area Oliver Langdon, MHA - Fortune Bay-Cape LeHune, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today the allocation of $90,000 for "hands on" site reclamation work in Swanger Cove in the Bay d'Espoir area. This area has been higraded, that is, the merchantable timber has been harvested selectively over the years. "This project will remove the poor quality decadent trees which were left," said Mr. Langdon. "Clearing out non-productive, old or otherwise unhealthy trees will enable natural regeneration to occur to produce a new forest." The minister added: "This type of work is necessary to ensure that the forest will regenerate as a healthy forest as quickly as possible." Work will commence on the completion of the earlier precommercial thinning work at the end of July. This project is also a Forest Service project, and will employ the same 30 employees. The site reclamation work will be undertaken throughout the month of August. The project is fully funded by the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods.
