Resource road contract awarded for Baie Verte/White Bay district valued at $71,050

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, announced today the award of a $71,050 contract to carry out new construction of 3.25 km of Class "C-2" resource road in the Baie Verte/White Bay district.

Budgell's Equipment and Rentals Ltd. of Triton were awarded the contract to carry out the construction work at Dawe's Pond. The road is needed to provide access to timber stands for production of sawlogs and pulpwood. The roads will also allow access for silvicultural work and monitoring of the regeneration of the forest. "Access to these areas by the forest resource roads around the province is vital to our forestry industry," said the minister.

The project is expected to employ six people. Work will commence around June 10, 1996 and will take approximately 10 weeks.

The project is fully funded by the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods
