Site preparation contract for Exploit's Bay area, Lewisporte District valued at $72,450

Melvin Penney, MHA - Lewisporte, and Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, are pleased to announce the award of a $72,450 contract to prepare a cutover site near Exploit's Bay for planting. This area had been previously clearcut for sawlogs and pulpwood by commercial operators.

Quest Incorporated of Birchy Bay was awarded the contract to prepare a 350 hectare area for tree seedling planting. "The area will be replanted with seedlings of the same species that were previously harvested," said Mr. Penney. Mr. Tulk added: "This work is in line with the department's objective to maintain the integrity of the forest ecosystem."

The project will get under way by early June 1996 (approximately), and will involve six weeks of activity. It will employ three individuals.
