Silviculture project in Gambo area to employ 15 people

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, is pleased to announce the award of a contract to carry out silviculture work in Terra Nova district.

A $44,408.25 contract was awarded to Budland Enterprises Limited of Baytona for tree seedling planting of a non-regenerating cleared area with the objective of bringing the area back into production. The 225 hectare area in the vicinity of Gambo will be planted with containerized seedlings.

The project will employ 15 people for about four weeks. Work is expected to get under way May 13.

"Tree species will be matched to site conditions within the overall area," said the minister. "This type of overall planting strategy will assist in keeping our forest healthy and ensure the viability of our forest industry."
