Silviculture projects in The Straits/White Bay North to employ 12 people

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, is pleased to announce the award of a $17,100 contract to carry out a silviculture project at St. Anthony Airport in The Straits/White Bay North district.

Carter's Electrical Ltd. of Botwood was awarded the contract for tree seedling planting of an area affected by wildfire which has problems with regeneration.

Mr. Tulk says the project will employ 12 people for about five weeks. Work is expected to get under way June 3, 1996.

"Sixty hectares of cleared area near the St. Anthony airport will be planted with black spruce container stock," said the minister. "This type of overall planting strategy will assist in keeping our forest healthy and ensuring the viability of our forest industry."
