Atlantic Canada Angling Days, June 22-23

Beaton Tulk, Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, and minister responsible for wildlife, announced today that June 22 and 23 will be Atlantic Canada Angling Days in our province.

In making the announcement the minister stated: "Here in Newfoundland and Labrador we are very fortunate to have access to thousands of lakes, ponds and streams which we can use for recreational fishing, and often these waterways are taken for granted. This celebration will give everyone the opportunity to participate and learn more about recreational fishing and in turn learn more about our environment."

Atlantic Canada Angling days are being sponsored by the Atlantic Salmon Federation and coordinated here in Newfoundland and Labrador by the Wildlife Division of the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods. Mr. Tulk added: "It is our hope that many community groups such as the Junior Forest Wardens, Scouts Canada, Girl Guides, as well service organizations like the Lions Clubs, Kinsmen/Kinette clubs and development associations get involved. My department and the Atlantic Salmon Federation are working hard to ensure a healthy future for our inland fishery, and one way to do this is through public participation."

Individuals or groups who wish to sponsor an event can obtain an event planning guide from the nearest wildlife office. The Atlantic Salmon Federation will be supplying posters that can be customized to specific events, as well as complementary passes and a few mementos and prizes that can be distributed during celebrations.
