(Executive Council)

His Honour the Lieutenant Governor, Frederick W. Russell, stated today that he was very pleased to learn of the appointment of Dr. Max House to the position of Lieutenant Governor of our province. His Honour stated that he had known Dr. House for many years and that he had made a significant contribution to the advancement of medicine in Newfoundland. His Honour is certain that Dr. House and his wife Mary will do an excellent job in the vice-regal position.

His Honour said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Newfoundland and Labrador for the kindness and courtesy extended to my wife and me as we carried out our vice-regal duties. It has been an honour to serve as the repersentative of Her Majesty the Queen in this province. As I prepare to leave office, we will take with us many happy memoriews of our time in office, especially the good memories of the thousands of people we were privileged to meet over the past five years. I am honoured to have been able to serve you."

His Honour further stated that he would be meeting with Dr. House in the near future to arrange a date for the installation ceremony.
