Premier Tobin comments on the passing of the Honourable Joe Ghiz

Premier Brian Tobin issued a statement today respecting the passing of the Honourable Joe Ghiz, former Premier of Prince Edward Island.

"On behalf of the government and the people of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, I offer my sincere condolences to the family of the late Joe Ghiz.

"Mr. Ghiz served his province with distinction as Premier, and was a respected national figure during his successful political career. He was well-liked and respected, and carried his talents to the bench as a judge in Prince Edward Island after his retirement as Premier.

"We are all sad at his untimely passing, at such a young age, and at a time when he was still making a considerable contribution to his province."

Former Premier Clyde Wells will represent the province and Beaton Tulk, Government House Leader and Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods, will represent the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador the funeral of Mr. Ghiz today. Unfortunately Premier Tobin will not be in attendance due to prior commitments.
