Itinerary for Ireland Mission released

Premier Brian Tobin will leave for an official visit to Ireland on Thursday, November 7. This visit will be the premier's first international trade mission. Paul Dicks, Minister of Finance, and representatives of 18 Newfoundland and Labrador companies and organizations will accompany the premier on the three day mission.

During the visit, Premier Tobin will join Prime Minister John Bruton to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on economic cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Ireland and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador. The MOU will allow the two parties to explore, develop and enhance the possibilities of mutually advantageous economic cooperation through government, industrial, business and cultural activities.

"One of the objectives of this visit is to identify potential growth opportunities for Newfoundland and Labrador and Ireland," says Tobin. "The signing of this MOU represents a commitment to work together to achieve common goals, given the similarities in economies."

The visit will mark the first time a premier from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will make an official visit to Ireland. The premier will participate in meetings with President Mary Robinson, Michael Phillips who is the Canadian Ambassador to Ireland and address the Irish Canada Business Association. The Government of Ireland has designated this mission as an official visit and will pay for all on- ground costs for the government delegation.

The delegation represents companies and organizations from various sectors of the Newfoundland and Labrador economy with a particular focus on the information technology (IT) sector. The representatives will be meeting with Irish company officials.

Following is a copy of Premier Tobin's itinerary.
