On Saturday, October 26 and Sunday, October 27, His Honour the Lieutenant Governor, The Honourable Frederick W. Russell, will participate in a number of events organized by the Canadian Forces Liaison Council. The Canadian Forces Liaison Council is an organization under the chairmanship of John Eaton of Toronto which is comprised of a group of businessmen from across Canada. The council's role is to make employers aware of the contribution to Canada by members of the Reserve Forces and to encourage them to grant those employees, who are members of the Reserves, up to two weeks unpaid leave each year to undergo military training.

On Saturday, October 26, at 7 p.m., His Honour will be the guest of Mr. Eaton and members of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council at a dinner at the Delta St. John's Hotel, where His Honour will give an address.

On Sunday, October 27, at 10:30 a.m., His Honour and Mrs. Russell will attend a church service at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Following the church service, His Honour will take the salute from a parade of 400 members of Newfoundland's Reserve Forces. The salute will be taken in front of the main entrance of Government House and the general public are invited to view this parade.

At 12 noon, Their Honours will host a reception for members of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council and other invited guests at Government House.

At 2 p.m. His Honour will attend a Newfoundland Reserve Force Day ceremony at the Confederation Building in honour of the province's recognition of October 27, 1996 as Newfoundland Reserve Force Day. His Honour will sign a statement of support of the Reserve Forces on behalf of the province and Lieutenant-General D. Kinsman will sign on behalf of the Department of National Defence. His Honour will give an address.
