September 16, 1996
(Executive Council)

NOTE TO EDITORS:

Premier Brian Tobin will be in Halifax tomorrow (Tuesday, September 17, 1996) to address the Board of Governors of the Information Technology Association of Canada (ITAC), whose meeting is being held as part of ITAC's annual conference known as Softworld. The premier will be addressing chief executive officers of Canada's top information technology companies.

His message will be that Newfoundland and Labrador is ready for the information age and is ready and able to invest some of the revenues from resource developments such as Hibernia, Terra Nova and Voisey's Bay to ensure that we have a competitive, value-added, information technology sector well into the 21st century. The premier will take this opportunity to promote the successes of the approximately 130 Newfoundland and Labrador IT companies which employ 3,400 people and which contributed approximately $470 million to the provincial economy in 1995.
