Immediate review of long term health care fees

Premier Brian Tobin announced today that there will be an immediate review relating to the new fee schedule that came into effect on July 1 for long term health care. The new fee schedule is intended to achieve a higher rate of cost recovery for long term care from those who can afford to pay for this service. The review will be completed within the next week.

Premier Tobin said: "I have heard from people across our province who are concerned by what they hear about the new fee schedule. Those who have worked hard for many years and who have a right to dignity in their senior years want a policy that is fair. So do I. I want to be sure that government takes into account the kinds of legitimate concerns like those expressed to us yesterday by the Ad Hoc Committee on Long Term Health Care. I also want to ensure that those who really can afford to pay a greater share of the costs for their care, do so."
