The following is being distributed at the request of Newfoundland District, Land Force Atlantic Area:

Newfoundland District, Land Force Atlantic Area - Lieutenant General J.M. Baril to visit St. John's, May 2

Lieutenant General J.M. Baril, commander Land Force Command, accompanied by Major General R. Crabbe, commander Land Force Atlantic Area, will be in St. John's on Thursday, May 2, as part of Lieutenant General Baril's tour of Canadian Army units in Atlantic Canada. The recently-appointed head of the Canadian Army is undertaking a tour to see first-hand the units under his command and to meet with soldiers.

The visiting generals will be briefed on Newfoundland District at 0900 hrs. From 0915 to 1130 Lieutenant General Baril and Major General Crabbe will visit 1st Battalion, The Royal Newfoundland Regiment, 56 Field Engineer Squadron and 36 Service Battalion. They will depart St. John's at noon for Sydney.


NOTE TO EDITORS:    There will be a photo opportunity during the visit
                    of Lieutenant General J.M. Baril and Major General
                    R. Crabbe to Newfoundland District units, Thursday
                    May 2.  Their tour of unit lines will commence at
                    approximately 0915 hrs and conclude at 1130 hrs.

                    Lieutenant General Baril and Major General Crabbe
                    will be available to meet with media representatives
                    at 1130 hrs at the Canadian Forces Officers Mess.
