Proposed Garia Bay (Northwest Brook) Hydroelectric Development
Proponent: Genergy Inc. - Project Manager on behalf of Penny Hydro Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a 15 megawatt hydroelectric plant on Northwest Brook, Garia Bay in the District of La Poile, approximately 14 kilometres northwest of the community of Rose Blanche. The proposal was originally registered in July of 1991. At that time, the minister required an EPR be prepared to provide more information on the project and the environment to be affected. Since that time, ministerial guidelines have been issued for the preparation of the EPR and public meetings have been held in communities on the Southwest Coast. The deadline for written comments on the document is January 8, 1997.

A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment and Labour. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
