September 11, 1996 (Environment and Labour) Environment and Labour Minister Kevin Aylward has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies can be obtained by contacting the Regional Office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item. NEW UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED
The proponent proposes to construct a 900 metre road to his cottage located on the northeast side of Flatwater Pond on the Baie Verte Peninsula. The road will originate from the south side of the Burlington road approximately 2.5 kilometres from Highway 410. The cleared right of way will be 14 metres with a two lane travelling surface of approximately five metres. Construction is tentatively scheduled for the fall of this year. The proposal was registered on September 5, 1996 and the minister's decision is due on October 20, 1996.
The proponent proposes to construct a one kilometre cottage access road to cabins on Nine Island Pond South and Black Duck Pond, Roaches Line. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin this fall. The proposal was registered on September 5, 1996 and the minister's decision is due on October 20, 1996.
The proponent proposes to operate a salvage operation involving scrap steel, scrap vehicles and used lumber. The site is located on Whitmore Street and measures 100 feet x 200 feet. The existing wooden building is 1120 square feet. The proposal was registered on September 10, 1996 and the minister's decision is due on October 25, 1996. The public is invited to examine these registration documents and offer written comments to the minister on whether an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) should be ordered for these proposals. The deadline for the receipt of public comments is October 11, 1996. NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED The Minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertakings which have recently been registered and examined by government and the public. The undertakings are released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements.
