Environment and Labour Minister Kevin Aylward has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies can be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED

Conne River Access Road Upgrading
Proponent: Department of Works, Services and Transportation

The proponent proposes to upgrade and pave the existing Conne River Access Road, Route 365 from Conne River to Route 360, Bay D'Espoir Highway for a distance of 12.1 kilometres. Road construction is planned to start in the fall of 1996 and will involve clearing and possibly some subgrade construction. Final subgrade construction and paving will be completed in 1997. The proposal was registered on August 29, 1996 and the minister's decision is due on October 13, 1996.

The public is invited to examine this registration document and offer written comments to the minister on whether an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) should be ordered for this proposal. The deadline for the receipt of public comments is October 3, 1996.

PUBLIC REVIEW EXTENDED:

Northwest Arm Brook (Connoire Bay) Mini Hydroelectric Generating Station
Proponent: St. Mary's Bay Hydro Corporation

The public review of the Environmental Impact Statement has been extended to September 15, 1996. The minister's decision deadline is now October 5, 1996.

The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
