Statutory Review Committee appointed

Kevin Aylward, Minister of Environment and Labour, today appointed the province's Workers' Compensation Statutory Review Committee. The committee is appointed every five years to review the province's Workers' Compensation Act and Regulations and to seek input from workers and employers on compensation issues.

"The appointments I am making today signal the beginning of another opportunity for all stakeholders of the province's Workers' Compensation Legislation to take a good look at the act and its implications for workers and employers of this province," the minister said.

Nominations for appointment to the committee are put forward by the Federation of Labour, the Employers' Council, the Workers' Compensation Board, and MHAs throughout the province. Mr. Aylward named the following to the committee: David Alcock, Chair; James Skinner, Worker Representative; Donald Murphy, Employer Representative; Karen Pierpoint, Representative At-Large.

The committee's work will begin by seeking input from employees, employers and groups and individuals who have an interest in the Workers' Compensation process. Public hearings will be held around the province and the committee will submit a report and recommendations to the minister approximately six months from the beginning of the hearings.
