March 28, 1996 (Environment and Labour) Environment and Labour Minister Kevin Aylward has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies can be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment and Labour or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item. NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED Lethbridge Sawmill Operation (Resubmission) The proponent has withdrawn the initial proposal for a sawmill to be located 100 metres south of Highway 230 at Lethbridge, Bonavista Bay. The proponent has proposed a new site for the sawmill located 100 metres south of Highway 233 at Lethbridge. The proponent proposes to produce kiln dried lumber for markets in eastern North America. The undertaking is intended to employ 29 people at the sawmill with construction to start as soon as possible. The public is invited to examine this registration document and offer written comments to the minister on whether an environmental impact statement should be ordered for this proposal. The deadline for the receipt of public comments is April 26, 1996. NO ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRED The minister has decided that an environmental impact statement is not required for the following undertakings which have recently been registered and examined by government and the public. The undertakings are released subject to other regulatory and permitting requirements. - Isle aux Morts Rockweed Harvesting REVISED COMPONENT STUDY SUBMITTED Star Lake Hydroelectric Project The revised wildlife component study has been submitted to the minister. Comments from the public should be submitted by April 19, 1996. The minister's decision on the acceptability of the study is due May 3, 1996.
