Environment Minister Kevin Aylward has announced the following events relative to the Environmental Assessment Act. In the case of documents received or approved, copies can be obtained by contacting the Regional Office of the Department of Environment or by calling toll free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED

Lethbridge Sawmill Operation
Proponent: Rock Island Lumber Ltd.

The proponent proposes to construct a sawmill at Lethbridge, Bonavista Bay approximately 100 metres south of highway #230. The proponent proposes to produce kiln dried lumber which will be sold along the eastern seaboard of North America. Rock Island Lumber Ltd. proposes to employ 29 people at the sawmill and start construction as soon as possible.

The public is invited to examine this registration document and offer written comments to the minister on whether an Environmental Impact Statement should be ordered for this proposal. The deadline for the receipt of public comments is March 15, 1996.

ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT ADDENDUM RECEIVED

The Gould's By-Pass Road Environmental Preview Report addendum has been received and is available for review. This addendum is required to address deficiencies identified during the review of the Environmental Preview Report. The deadline for written submissions to the minister is March 15, 1996. The minister's decision is due March 25,1996.

A guide to the Environmental Assessment Process is available from the Department of Environment. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make comments known.
