Minister approves temporary request for fibreglassing facility

Environment Minister Kevin Aylward today issued a temporary authorization to complete fibreglassing on a boat housed in the Quality Fibreglass facility at Harbour Grace. The request was approved so that the boat can be moved out of the facility and installation of emission control equipment as ordered by the Department of Environment can begin. The approval is for a four-day period only and the work is being permitted only under strict conditions which will be monitored by the department. The minister says that this decision should help facilitate a resolution to this problem. "In order for the equipment to be installed the owner needs to complete the work and move the boat out of the facility. I have granted a temporary approval so that the installation can take place and the problem can be resolved once and for all," he said.

The authorization comes into effect as of February 1 and the Town of Harbour Grace as well as health officials have been notified of the minister's decision.
