In the case of documents received or approved, copies can be obtained by contacting the regional office of the Department of Environment or by calling toll-free 1-800-563-6181. Comments on submitted documents are invited from the public, addressed in writing to the minister, and are welcome prior to the deadline date following each item.

NEW UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Nugget Pond Power Transmission Line
Proponent: Richmont Mines Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct a 25 kV transmission line from the existing 25 kV line on Nippers Harbour road to the Nugget Pond site, a distance of approximately five kilometres. The company has determined that for the production phase of the project power from Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro would be more economical and environmentally suitable than diesel-generated power. The transmission line will commence at a point on Highway 415 and Highway 414 and run generally in a southwesterly direction to the Nugget Pond site. The company has indicated that construction will start as soon as possible and involve about 10 jobs.

The public is invited to examine this registration document and offer written comments to the minister on whether an environmental impact statement should be ordered for this proposal. The deadline for the receipt of public comments is February 23, 1996.

A guide to the environmental assessment process is available from the Department of Environment. The minister encourages all interested parties to become involved and to make their comments known. Further information may be obtained by contacting the Director of Environmental Assessments at (709) 729-2562 or toll-free 1-800-563-6181, or by mail to:
